Eddie Niemietz Memorial Trailride – October 2008
After 3 months of planning, the Eddie Niemietz Memorial Trailride for 2008 is now just a wonderful memory.
What a turn out! Friday morning, Fred Goerke, Lynn and Kathy Conner and Rocky and Cindy Gidden set up the tables in the party hall, had lunch and the trailers started rolling up the driveway. WOW!
While Beverley Goerke made the chili and beans, everyone was hopping to get prepared. Joe Coldewey went for ice, picnic tables were getting hauled, and the trailers were brought down from the shed. Valerie Creveling and Cindy Gidden started registration at 6:00.
On Saturday morning, everyone woke to the aroma of pancakes, bacon and
eggs and coffee – yum. The ride left out at 9:00 with 120 on horseback. WOW –
what a crowd – what a trailride! Lunch was prepared back at the Goerke’s garage
and the ride left out again – okay, some stayed and napped, but we aren’t naming
names! ?
Supper was served at Goerke’s Country Tavern at 6:30 and what a
meal it was – Fred Goerke’s famous Pot Roast, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans,
Salad, & Bread. Let’s not forget the famous Chocolate Desserts provided by
Hill County Bakery – oh my!
Cibolo Creek FFA officers were on hand to assist in the serving. After a
few announcements by President Joe Coldewey and the President of Cibolo Creek
FFA, the lights were lowered and Two Way Street began to play. Everyone had a
wonderful time browsing the silent auction and live auction and buying raffle
tickets. At 9:30 the live auction began – it was great – full of entertainment
and power bidding by many! What fun! What great crowd participation. Linda
Wingfield and Crew drew the raffle tickets and the night ended all too soon with
many not ready to leave such great company!
Sunday morning brought some
coffee and more wonderful Hill Country Bakery pastries and the 90 riders left
out again. Just where did the time go? Swoosh and it’s over. Sure wished it
could have lasted longer! Don’t you?
So many work so hard at this
trailride, we want to take the time to thank them.
Foremost, thank you to everyone who participated, especially our trailriders! Thanks to all who donated to our auctions and raffle!

And just a thought to end – Remember this event is held to raise money for the 4-H & FFA of Guadalupe County – a dream of Eddie Niemietz. It just doesn’t get any better when a 4-H or FFA parent walks up to you, shakes your hand and says Thank you for all you have done and continue to do for our Youth! Thanks to Eddie – because of you, this is a dream come true! We miss you! Happy Trails To You!! Til we see you again!

Now for the Quips - gotta luv 'em!
• Apparently Joe Larios was in line for the woman’s bathroom, when questioned, it seems Joe said there was more privacy in the ladies facilities.
• Shannon, how long to you have to be married to Rick to understand that you don’t follow him EVERYWHERE – that includes new routes on the trail with wicked brush that tends to scratch the crap out of your arm.
• After we say Thank God you are okay, Kathy Conner, I think they only gave you an 8 on your rodeo performance. Seems Craig also tried his best to out do you, but only scored a 7 on his roll thru the barbwire fence.
• When we asked for guys to surround the bar being auctioned, might have known that Ryan Bufler was the first to assume the bar pose. Then, when we mentioned that we might sell one of the guys, Ryan was also first to shout “Pick me!” Go figure!
• For all those who need to know – lime green is a fun color.
• Seems Derrell Cox is going for a record on getting kicked by a horse. Left him limping and swollen but, as he always says, “It’s a long way from my heart”. Just keep it that way Derrell! Yeah, yeah, yeah, we know…….all a part of being a cowboy!
• Seems everyone smelled so good at the dance with a lot of deodorant and cologne smells – could that have been because they were rushing down to the hall after the afternoon ride? Didn’t want to miss out on Fred’s pot roast!
• Teresa Collins – NOW Do you know Fred’s secret sauce for the pot roast?
• Randy Collins – Tell me you didn’t loose your cell phone AGAIN????
• Rocky Gidden – Why was everyone at breakfast asking you to move your truck from the breakfast area as they were tired of hearing the sound of the diesel engine? Were you asleep? Seems Brian Sullivan got a kick out of watching you sleep!
